How To Clean The Dishwasher

People don’t frequently give thought to cleaning the dishwasher. After all, it’s used to wash the dishes. So you would normally think it’s clean, too. You suppose it doesn’t need cleaning, but it’s exactly the opposite. As unfortunate it is for you to hear that debris do build up over time. And they can decrease the normal functions of your dishwasher. This is why they should be taken care of as soon as possible after you have discovered them.

Looking on the bright side, the dishwasher doesn’t require that much of a cleaning. It also doesn’t have to be often. But you still have to do it from time to time. So here are some tips and instructions to help you.

Firstly, regular usage of the dishwasher will prevent any deposits to build up on its inside. This is quite important to remember as it means you’ll be cleaning the dishwasher fewer times. The real cleaning comes after you’ve run the dishwasher and have already emptied it completely. Then you should check all the spinning arms. Making sure the holes are open is essential. Otherwise water won’t be able to flow through them. Any pieces of food leftovers in the holes must be cleared. You can simply use a toothpick for this. Careful, though. If you’re using tools with metal points, try not to scratch anything. In case the holes are too small, you could make them bigger by drilling.

Except the inside of the dishwasher, there are also other parts that might need cleaning. For example, this is the area around the door edges. You might as well check for filth under the gasket. You’ll need an old cloth soaked in water and a toothbrush or another soft brush, whatever you can find.

Next step is to inspect around the drain. See if it’s clogged. You may have to remove some solid matter stuck down there. There might even be small pieces of broken plates or glasses, so you should be prepared for this.

If mould is a problem, just leave the door open after every cycle. The dishwasher is more likely to dry out like this. To tackle the problem – thoroughly use bleach. You should be extremely cautious when applying bleach. This is a very strong chemical and should be used only when necessary.

Another thing you shouldn’t miss is wiping the front side of the dishwasher. Take any kind of spray cleaner you like. Apply some cleaner to a sponge and start wiping. Be sure to clean all buttons and switches, too.
