Local Catford Info
The name Catford has an old history – it comes from the place where cattle crossed the River Ravensbourne during the period when the Saxon used to live among those lands.
Today Catford’s housing estates are outstandingly desirable because of the ancient Victorian and Edwardian architecture. Some of the largest properties can be found in Catford Conservation area. There you can find houses with three and four-bedrooms. In the Corbett estate you can find great 19th century houses.
The most famous sight and also an attraction is the Catford Cat. It represents huge sculpture of a black cat, made of fiberglass. It is situated above the entrance of Catford shopping center.
Catford’s oldest pub is the Black Horse and Harrow (now called the Goose on the Green). The pub has existed since at least 1700, but the present building dates from 1897.
