Local Kensington Info

Situated in the western part of London, close to the centre of the city, Kensington is one of the most expensive and exclusive residential areas of the capital. Its appeal is greatly enhanced by The Royal Park of Kensington Gardens and the Hyde Park. Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge moved to Kensington Palace after their wedding in 2011.

Kensington Palace is even more lavishing than Buckingham, though lesser in size. Built in the 17th century as a residence for the Earl of Nottingham, it was acquired by William III in the end of the century and ever after has been one of the favourite royal residences.

Because of its location, the area is crossed by many bus and tube lines, interlinking the central, western and southern parts of the capital. The architectural style is predominantly Victorian, though some modern and even futurist house estates have been constructed in the recent years.

Some of London’s best museums are located in the area or close by, including Victoria and Albert Museum, The Royal Albert Hall, The National History Museum and The Science Museum. When you add the fact that some of the country’s best educational institutions can also be found here- Imperial College of London, Kensington and Chelsea College and The Royal College of Arts- you can easily understand why Kensington is one of the most desired places to live.
