Local Highbury Info

Situated near the very heart of the capital of the United Kingdom, Highbury N5 is one of the North London areas and a district in the London Borough of Islington. In its early years Highbury was part of the larger manor of Tolentone and this is mentioned even in the Domesday Book. In addition to this, Highbury Manor was maybe used by a Roman garrison as a summer camp but this has not been proven to be true.

Nowadays the area is mainly residential and it is a desired place where to buy or rent a property and start a family. The area has increased its population a couple of times and now it is one of the flourishing North areas in London. Its development occurred in two phases and a large number of large Italianate villas were built in the area. This makes its architectural look memorable and unique and also interesting to the visitors of the area.

An interesting fact about the area is that in 1913 Woolwich Arsenal F.C. moved to Highbury and the new Arsenal Stadium was built there. Highbury become home to the Arsenal F.C. and the club prospered, until 2006 when it moved to Ashburton Grove and the old stadium was converted into a lavishing and luxurious housing complex.

You can go and visit some of the most famous places nearby: Finsbury Park, Holloway, Islington and Canonbury, Newington Green, Stoke Newington, and Barnsbury.  The area has also been associated with some world-known people. Some of them are: George Martin, Clive Anderson, Jesse Birdsall, Henry Lawson, Nick Hornby, Alan Davies, Jummy Carr, Andy Burrows, Ed O’Brien, Leona Lewis, Rowan Atkinson, and Ian Jack.
