Local Kensington Info
Situated in the west part of London, Kensington W8 is mainly known as a residential area, but it is also one of the largest business areas. It also contains the district of South Kensington and is considered to be also one of the largest commercial areas in the capital of the United Kingdom.
In the past Kensington was interpreted as “Kenesignetun” from Latin. Later it became densely-populated and as a result nowadays it is a flourishing area with a lot of residents and office workers. All of this is not a problem, because it is excellently-served by London public transport and especially by three of the stations located in the Travelcard Zone 1: High Street Kensington, Gloucester Road and South Kensington.
Kensington can be a lot of fun, too. It offers different places where locals and visitors can have rest after the long day at work and relax. There are some large green areas and parks, such as Royal Parks, Kensington Gardens and Holland Park but there are also different residential square gardens which are also pretty comfortable. Most of the large parks in the area are situated north of Kensingron High Street, which was announced to be the second best shopping street in London, with a lot of shops and boutiques, where both residents and tourists can find everything they need.
In Kensington there are also interesting places to visit, such as Kensington Palace in the Kensington Gardens. Kensington Palace is known as a residence of the British Royal Family since the 17th century and is one of the most beautiful and significant buildings in the whole area.
You will also find it interesting to visit the Royal Albert Hall, which is world-known as one of the most popular concert halls. Many classical, pop and rock concerts are staged there, as well as ballet and opera performances, award ceremonies and other official events. Other local landmarks are the Royal College of Music; the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum; the Victoria and Albert Museum and many others.
