Forest Hill is a residential area in South London. The name of the area originates from the landscape of the place, which means “the forest with a big hill”. The very first name of the area was “The Common”. In the past when the area was formed it was scarcely populated. Later a main road was built and more than fifteen big mansions were constructed.

Around the 1840s the people decided to change the name of the local station, called The Dartmouth Arms station, and then came the contemporary name of the area.

Later came that period of development for the western part of Forest Hill. After the Crystal Palace had been changed, the progress of this part of the area started at full steam with luxury houses and mansions. On the other hand many modest houses were built because of the cheaper railway fares.
