Local Shepherd’s Bush Info

Located in the western part of London in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, Shepherd’s Bush W12 is considered to be predominantly a residential area. However, there is a large and well-developed shopping area – Shepherd’s Bush Green, which is situated to the south of the Westfield shopping centre. In the area there is also another smaller shopping centre, a lot of independent shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants.

The area was bought by the Bishop of London in 704, but there is also archaeological evidence that there was a human settlement from the Iron Age. Unlike the neighbouring area of Hammersmith, in the past Shepherd’s Bush was mostly undeveloped until the second part of the 19^th century, when the West London Railway and several tram lines changed the outlook of the area.

One of the interesting buildings in the area is the Shepherds Bush Empire, which was built in the beginning of the 20^th century as a music hall and became the BBC Television Theatre in 1953. Now it is a music venue, which became home to some very popular acts, including David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Neil Finn and Bob Dylan, and is still one of the most important buildings in the area.

You may also find it interesting to visit the Bush Theatre, which is one of the most celebrated new writing theatres in the world. Some of the other local landmarks are Bush Hall, Ginglik, and Shepherds Bush Walkabout, which is one of the most popular music and live sports venues in the area.

The first Olympic Stadium, which was especially built for the 1908 Summer Olympics is also located in Shepherd’s Bush. Later, it was used by the Queens Park Rangers.
