1838 was the year of the railway’s arrival in Wimbledon and then to development accelerated even more. A lot of gardens in the Elizabethan style were made, the suburban growth was blooming, the travelling was made easier so a lot of wealthy families came to live there, buying large mansions and houses and needed lots of labour force. Lots of shops were built, different businesses appeared with one purpose- to serve Wimbledon’s wealthy community.
