After 19th and especially in the middle of the 20th century Stratford became one of the most important commercial and cultural centres in London. And lately, the area has become home to the London Olympic Park because o the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Today in Stratford there are two of the largest and also most popular shopping centres in London – the Stratford Centre and the Westfield Stratford Centre, which are located of either side of Stratford station. Stratford Centre is a shopping mall opened in 1974, which is open 24 hours a day and gives the local people and visitors of the area excellent possibilities of having some good time. The stores include different shops and chain stores, some of which are: 99p Styores, Nlue Inc, Burger King, CEX, Evans, H Samuel Jewellers, Holland & Barrett, KFC, McDonalds, New Look and many others.

It opened in 2011 and is one of the largest urban shopping centres not only in the United Kingdom, but also in Europe. Actually, it is the 3rd largest shopping centre in the United Kingdom behind MetroCentre and the Trafford Centre and offers different attractions to its visitors.
You can visit some of the local landmarks, which are mostly some places of worship, such as the Evangelist Church of St John, which was built between 1832 and 1834.
