Bloomsbury WC1 is an area in Central West London. The first record of this area connects to 1201, when the Norman landowner William de Blemond acquired it. It has been developed by the Russell family in the 17th and 18th centuries as a fashionable residential area.

This area is situated in the central part of London and is known for its’ garden squares. Some of them include Russel Square, Bedford Square, Bloomsbury Square. Other landmarks are represented by the many literary connections and numerous cultural, educational and healthcare institutions. Also this area is the home of the University of London central bodies and departments, The Bloomsbury Colleges, University College London, the College of Law, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and Goodenough College.

In the heart of this area, you can find the British Museum. It opened for the first time to the public in 1759. Bloomsbury is the home-land of three really valuable churches – St. George’s Church, built by Nicholas Hawksmoor about 1716-1731. The second representative is the Early English Neo-Gothic Church of Christ the King on Gordon Square and the third – St Pancras New Church near Euston station, completed in 1822.

Bloomsbury also represents a vital transport junction. Only two underground stations are situated inside of it and twelve is the count of the different bus routes running through the area.
